Actually, it's not a stupid question. Basically, what you are looking for is
a monitoring component that handles SNMP MIBs. I wish that I could point you
in the right direction for that, but I bet that a Google search would turn
something up.

And if you want to know more about SNMP (Simple Network Management
Protocol), check out http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1157.html and
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2573.html. These are two RFCs for SNMP (Googled
on "RFC SNMP"). The search turned up some other articles, but these two are
the official requests for comments that detail the protocol.
