Author How to make the image from a postscript file darker?

Hi,

My postscript file shows an image of a neuron. However, the image is
faint. I am wondering if there is a simple way to make the image darker.

I can program in a number of computer languages like JAVA, C++, but not
postscipt.

Thank you very much.

What kind of "image" is it? Is it uniformly faint, or just in parts of
its tonal range? Is your PostScript file a complete page description, or
intended for insertion in another document? What application generated
it? It's hard to say what will work best without having some such
details.

Offhand, though, I'd suggest changing the transfer function. If the file
is reasonably small (no larger than a megabyte or two) you could e-mail
it to me (delete the redundant parts of my address) and I may be able to
offer something more specific -- but better, if you could put it on the
Web somewhere and post a link here, others also might help.

Please put your ps file (alternatively, just the illustration) on a web
site and post the url here in this forum. That way, anyone here who wants
to can take a look and provide some advice.

Christina,

eventually it can be opened by Photoshop directly (PhS accepts EPS,
but not necessarily PS).
If not then make a PDF. By Distiller (full version) itīs possible
to extract the image, move to Photoshop, edit there, place again in the
PDF and Save As by old or new name.
Programming a filter in a PostScript file is not simple. Especially
itīs probably necessary to improve contrast and lightness by appearance.
