| Intel Fortran and VS 2xxx.shit are pices of shit.
Believe it or not.
I was screwed so badly my this installation of these VIRUSES that I
intend to launch a one man CRUSADE to have them banned from as many
American Aerospace Businesses as I possibly can starting Monday
morning.

Whoa, Jim.
You started out yesterday saying that you didn't mean to post a flame,
and about five paragraphs into the post, you were using expletives and
name-calling to try to make your point. Since then, you've started four
new threads in the last couple of days, saying almost exactly the same
kind of thing, and using the same kind of language.
We know you had a bad experience with it. We know that you're
about it. You've made that quite clear; repeated posting isn't going to
get your point across any more.
What the repeated posts _are_ doing is giving the impression that you're
enough that you're not seeing straight. Which ... when I try to
solve a computer problem in anything approaching that kind of mood,
everything I touch breaks badly.
Calm down, breathe.
And, on this cru e: realize that anybody who's using the software has
just about as much experience installing it as you do. And presumably
either it worked fine for them, or else you're not going to be telling
them anything they don't know.

IMHO
rant on, most of these newsgroups are too serene and boring. it's
great that someone actually shows some passion about something.

Why? For all that passion, absolutely no information was exchanged. You're
advocating that the signal-to-noise ratio be lowered. I know of no system
where that is productive. Except, maybe a chaos generator.
If passion if more important to you than information, I suggest you start
your own alt.* newsgroup.

Hear, Hear!
If you have specific complaints, state them clearly.
Intel's representative reads this group, so you're at least providing
some guidance to where it can do some good. And someone here
may have a workaround to help you.
Otherwise, isn't there an alt.flame.* ?

Personally, applications have been leaving my Windows box,
heading for Linux and Mac. That's a better course, IMHO. :-)

Brooks,
If you skim past messages of Jim Klein to this newsgroup, you can
predict that appeals to reason are unlikely to succeed. Note that the
"wise men" with long experience in c.l.f, for example RM, JG, MM, and
DH, do not respond to him.

Those groups that exhibit passion often deteriorate into nothing BUT
passion. I think that Intel is well aware that some don't feel that IVF
is a satisfactory replacement for the CVF product
(installation/integration issues being an area of concern), so I doubt
any additional tirades here will have any impact whatsoever.

| I echo the thoughts of Brookes Moses.
I think you do too - so let no more be said!
In defense of the Intel team and IMHO it is worth the effort to get the
Intel compiler working on your machine. It produces easily the fastest
executables of any Fortran compiler (see www.polyhedron.com) and the
team supporting the product is probably the best resourced/active and
responsive of any of the Fortran compiler vendors - so you do get
product improvements following your input of
difficulties/complaints/problems through the standard channels. There
are problems, which I hope they will overcome (e.g. too much
paranoia/beucaucracy in their support services etc.). Also, Intel has
not yet reached Lahey's status (or Salford's) on debugging, but they
would appear to be very active in improving their product.
Re debugging - I would concur with the view of others on this forum
that there is no substitute for testing you code on a few different
compilers if you can.
You have already bought and paid for this excelent compiler - put it to
work to make your applications perform really well. In conjunction with
Winteracter you have a winner.

This is about the only ng I know of that isn't dominated by ranters. If
you like ranting I suggest you look somewhere else. This place is like
an oasis in the desert, and I'm sure most people here want to keep it
like that.

ROFL, another one for the killfile
if you bothered to stop dragging your knuckles on the ground long
enough to read his posts, instead of sitting back and doing nothing by
accepting the status quo, he stood up for what he believed in. in
this case, getting screwed because intel's uninstaller is indeed a
piece of shit and truer words were never written.
that is raising the S not N, think about it. i suggest you stop being
an unemotional, unelightened zombie and start living.

boo hoo... i've been hacking c.l.f since old DEC VMS and SunOS 4.1
who needs them. give me a Kshell or csh that's it. i help anyone who
needs it without needing to come down from some high, mighty and lofty

Speaking of which... live by the sword...
My clf killfile is quite short. But essentially announced intent to
troll is grounds. I'd welcome being on yours also; it would simplify
things. To help that along... :-)
My, you are old enough to have worked on the systems you claim? I'd have
guesssed maybe age 14 from your posts. Second childhood?
Feel free to reply in kind. Don't expect me to read it, much less reply.
