I categorically deny that this is even close to anything that I said or
meant. Nor is it anything close to a position I have heard any other
member or former member make, here or elsewhere.
I suspect that James will pull out citations alleged to say things like
this, or something that he considers to be equivalent. In any case, I
will not respond to any such citations or arguments. I hereby disclaim
them in advance. If there is any quote that appears to support the
attitude, then I claim in advance that it is misunderstood. If there is
a position that is claimed to be "essentially the same thing", I deny
such equivalence. In short, I deny in advance any statement alleging to
support this position, no matter by what argument.
I certainly know what my own feelings are. I don't need to read
citations to tell me that. And, having spent approximately 50 w s
face-to-face with members of the committee, I think I can read most of
them pretty well by now also. (Specifically, I think I can read them a
lot better than anyone possibly could based only on postings here and in
email).
But I'm not going to get into an argument with Giles about what my own
attitudes are. I'm just going to express my disgreement and stop. Now.
