Agreed. However, it would be nice to have a little program that supports
one in filling it out; pencil and eraser can be a bit tedious.

I was surprised that one I found in an airline magazine with 23 entries was
actually solveable without guesswork and backtracking...but it did require
some time to get over several stumbling blocks at which I needed to invent
a new rule in order to make forward progress 8-).
