In case there were any reasonable correspondents to this forum who were
in any doubt as to Jon's purpose in comp.lang.lisp, this post makes it
quite clear.
He characterizes die hard lispers as people who are so stupid as to
'struggle' with arithmetic, implicitly suggesting that being so stupid,
they couldn't possibly be reliable guides to appropriate programming
tools.
He then goes on to state explicitly that his purpose is to target
inexperienced correspondents to c.l.l..
Finally, he closes his post with a commercial advertisement for his
consulting services in ocaml, a language c.l.l. is clearly not about.
So he posts off topic posts with commercial content with the explicit
purpose of getting naive new readers of the forum to use his commercial
services. This is the very definition of a spammer.
Jon is a usenet spammer. He can't find enough of an audience on a low
traffic group that might be appropriate for ocaml such as
comp.lang.functional, so he posts to c.l.l. He mischaracterizes long
time lispers as idiots in the hope of deluding newcomers into believing
that ocaml is some sort of programming nirvana. He suggests that the
way to this nirvana is through his consulting services. One wonders how
foolish a newcomer would have to be to fall for this, though having
said that, thousands of people do click on spam ads for penis enlargers
every day.
