Intelligent people don't let other people set the agenda in terms
which make only one answer possible.

So do I. Few people would say otherwise, which makes this a rather
empty comment.
But since you make it, start with showing how living in conformity to
societal values can be proved then, since that is precisely the belief
system of most people, no doubt including yourself.

The question is whether you live by them or not.

But... can you even state the system of beliefs by which we live? If
not, consider where the values we live by are liable to come from.
Don't most of us just create a subset of the environment in which he
happen to have been born and grown up?
Fish find it hard to see water. But we can't discuss the merits of
breathing oxygen while we take water as an undiscussed default. IMHO,
anyway.
