Robert,
You may have your own personal opinion that,

"if they don't have one, yours wins by default."

Furthermore, you may even live your life as if this were generally (or even
universally true).

HOWEVER, I don't personally think that is a generally (much less generally in
CLC) accepted reasoning.

Often (n my perception and understanding) when one asks for another person's
"explanation" and no reply (or explanation) is given, this means:

1) The person asked never saw the request (for either electronic or personal
reasons)
or
2) The person asked did not think any further explanation was needed (often
believing - correctly or not - that the original "statement" stood on its own)
or
3) That the person asked doesn't think that the request was sincere and/or worth
a reply.
