That's why automatic transmissions out-sell stick shifts.

But we are moving simultaneously to a "dumbed down" world and a much
more complex world. It's harder to use a phone or a TV than it used
to be.

OO programming is an example of one tool that is simultaneously more
simple and more complex. We need to know less and we need to know
more at the same time. The simplifications are valuable as our
domain grows.
