Empire Loyalist is apparently wrong. Right time frame, but it seems
great-great-great granddaddy arrived straight from the old sod, complete
with young bride in tow.
Funny, I have a picture of him, and he is the spitting image of my
nephew. The men could be brothers, right down to hair and beard style.
In fact, the foreign blood comes in through my maternal grandmother, who
was English Roman Catholic, as compared to my Protestant Irish maternal
grandfather. That grandfather was a sergeant major in the army of the
Republic of Ireland. Until he retired and became a publican. I can
understand my mothers refusal to allow religion discussions at the
dinner table quite well.
