When posting to comp.lang.cobol please include a rate, or range of rates,
associated with the position(s) offered; doing otherwise leads many to
conclude that you are either trolling for resumes or running a blind ad to
determine rates.

| Wow what a lot of nerve! Well maybe I'm in a patriotic fervor, but
somebody trolling for resumes to hire more Indian contractors who will
help companies outsource more American (and European) jobs on the 4th
of July, sorry but that is very tacky!
Then we can look forward to these same dudes posting back to CLC asking
more stupid interview questions so they can convince more corporate
morons that they are qualified to take our jobs away at a lower rate of
pay. Nice!
I'm sorry for being so crude, but good lord that is wrong on so many
levels.
Happy 4th everybody! I need a drink!

So, I'm not the only one who goes supernova in this group?
One of the best bits of news that I have encountered for some time is
the fact that, in the UK at least, some companies having outsourced to
the sub-continent are hastily bringing their call centres (and
hopefully IT soon) back to the UK.

Different markets, different calendars, different holidays... welcome to
UseNet, where it is always some time, someplace.

It is not a matter of 'niceness' or not, just one of business. If a
corner-office idiot is foolish enough to believe in offers that are too
good to be true and entrusts vital corporate functions to resources which
are not equal to providing said functions... then the corporation goes the
way of the Dutch East Indies Company (or another Fine, Old Name that is no
longer around).

I see you haven't had great experience with the agents who do this, Holly.
"Tacky" would be the good ones...Imagine a science-fiction creature made
from mutated pond scum, whose only motivation is greed, and whose SOP is to
do whatever is necessary to shaft the contractor, the client, and any party
involved, other than said pond life, with success being measured purely by
the money made on every deal.
Now quadruple it, and you have an approximation of the average Agent.
I used to believe that somewhere, someplace, there was an ethical Agent
working for an ethical Agency, who would take a reasonable and fair cut for
the work involved in getting two people to shake hands. I dropped this
illusion after a few years dealing with these pimps. I know now, the best
way to get people is directly, via the Net. The sooner these cowboy agencies
are forced out of business, the better. It is encouraging (even though it is
) that many of them are now being forced to exploit the third world
(which hasn't yet wised up, but give it time) just to stay in business. I
believe the end is in sight. In ths context, the more people who cheat and
lie on their CVs, the more the credibility of these agents is damaged and
the sooner we can be rid of them.
I found I was being sent incompetent people whose CVs were just bullshit and
being charged outrageous money for them. (It was during this stage of my
careeer that I developed the interview techniques I use to this day. They
are designed to sort the wheat from the chaff very quickly with no chance of
cheating. So far, no one has slipped through the filters, but to be fair, I
may also have lost some people who might have been OK.)

Being a person of helpful disposition, I am more than willing to provide
free advice so that people can cheat their way through interviews. (I have
done so elsewhere in this forum... :-)) I think we should all help each
other, and people have a perfect right to expect help from CLC and not even
say 'thank you' or provide any input to help others. It's a God given right
to take what you can get isn't it?

Expressing a position forcefully isn't crude. Sometimes it is what is
required...:-)

Me too...:-) Or, maybe I've had enough...?
Pete.
(I am suffering with a rotten cold at the moment, but I have found out that
the particular variety of virus infecting me is very much averse to Jack
Daniels... Don't know whether the Tennessee Whiskey kills the virus or just
makes it happy, but it works for me :-))

I would always recommend a cheap whisky (no-e) from Scotland. One
advantage is that whisky (i.e. Scotch) does not cause sweating in the
imbiber and does clear the nasal passages whilst anaesthetising the
soft palate and throat (if you drink enough). Don't know if JD has the
same effect. Brandy, however, I believe (but need it confirmed) causes
sweating (not good if outside in a cold environment).
