Author ALLOCATE/FREE/BASED OpenCOBOL

With the recent talk of the COBOL 2002/200x standard I just thought I'd
mention that OpenCOBOL now supports the BASED data-item clause and the
ALLOCATE and FREE statements. Well, this is the pre-release of version
0.33, but Roger keeps saying that the official 0.33 release will be "any day
now". :-) Anyway, since I had a hand in this (though Roger justifiably did
a huge cleanup on it) I just wanted to mention it. Does any other COBOL
compiler support these three features?

Check it out, if you like, at http://www.sim-basis.de/open-cobol-0.33.tar.gz
..

(Apologies in advance to Roger if I shouldn't have announced this yet, but I
couldn't help myself...)

Anyway, I personally will do all that I can to get as much of the current
and upcoming COBOL standards as possible into OpenCOBOL. Maybe not the XML
TR, but... :-)

Frank

That's good to know, actually. Now I just have to get myself a BS2000
mainframe! :-)

I am very interested to see how much of COBOL 2002 is implemented in your
compiler. I will peruse that manual. Thanks!

How, if at all, are Fujitsu-Siemens and Fujitsu (Japan) related?

The Fujitsu is the same in both cases. F(japan) being the owner (IIRC).
