| For anyone who likes (or is amused by) Gilbert & Sullivan - and especially the
"similarity" of plots, you must check out Anna Russell's "How to Write Your Own
Gilbert and Sullivan Opera". See (for example),
http://www.concentric.net/~Oakapple/gasdisc/mdanna.htm
I couldn't find any online version to listen to, but this is certainly a classic
!!!

| .... And like *all* of Anna Russell's humo(u)r, it's spot-on accurate.
Her other most famous piece is her analysis of "The Ring of the Nibelungs",
and it's actually a pretty good synopsis of the plot (relating to a
reference earlier in the parent thread).
Both it and the G&S plot sketch are on "The Anna Russell Album", available
on CD, itself a compendium of the original vinyl "Anna Russell Sings?" (from
her New York Town Hall concert in 1952) and "Anna Russell Sings! Again?"
(ditto 1953).
I had the privilege of hearing her live in the late 1970's or early 1980's,
but alas, by then her comedic timing was getting a little sluggish (more
noticeable since I was so familiar with her material).
I don't know the later stuff ("Anna Russell Again?", "Anna Russell takes on
.... Nabucco & the Magic Flute" or "Anna Russell Encore"), all of which is
also apparently still available.

| I also saw here TWICE. I liked her bag-pipe piece - but think that one really
worked much better in person.
(I also use her "I don't make these things up" line when speaking "in public".
Chuck, I have even used it when talking about the '02 Standard <G> )

| IIRC from the recording, I think the quote was "I'm *not* making this up,
you know!". Don't remember to which particular suspension-of-disbelief she
was referring at the time.
But to return it (slightly) to topic, I think one could say the same thing
about the chart specifying the Precedence Rules for PICTURE characters in
the COBOL standard of any vintage ...
I haven't heard the bag-pipe piece, or actually anything that isn't in the
first two albums. I'll have to look it up.
