COBOL Jobs - RE: Is a career switch to the mainframe/cobol world responsible?

| Just some incite - from a staffing perspective. The amount of requests
from companies for COBOL programmers has declined significantly. There
are not as many positions opening up for that competency. That being
said, it is always difficult finding accomplished COBOL programmers
when we do get requests. Case in point, we have had a request for 3
programmers open for a couple to 3 months and have only been able to
fill one...
btw - is there a "COBOL users looking for work" group out there
anywhere?

Ummmmm... is this a case of 'it is difficult to find them' or 'it is
difficult to find them at the rate being offered?' In other words, look at
the lower salary in the range; would you say 'This is suitable for someone
just out of college' or 'this is suitable for someone of late middle age
with a couple of decades' worth of experience and whose teenagers are
approaching college-years'?
(My guess, of course, is that it falls closer to the former than the
latter... but some folks say I have a Bad Attitude, as well.)

You'll find some pretty decent people posting to this newsgroup... but if
you offer a job please include a rate, or range of rates, associated with
the position(s) offered.
