Fact 1:
Among those laid off at Micro Focus was Don Schricker, Chair of the INCITS
(ANSI-ish) J4 COBOL Committee. (When - approximately 15 years ago - Don was
laid off from Wang, he retained the "chair" but just changed companies. I don't
know what will happen this time.

Fact 2:
INCITS has issued a SECOND call for a volunteer for the NEXT Chair of J4.
(2nd "calls" are issued when no one responds to the first one). See:
http://www.cobolportal.com/j4/files/06-0029.doc

Fact 3:
According to:
http://www.cobolportal.com/j4/files/06-0014.doc
"Hewlett-Packard has lost its membership for failure to meet attendance
requirements."

Fact 3:
According to that same document,
"There are six members, quorum is 4."
I don't know whether Micro Focus intends to remain or not.

Oooh!...oooh!....please sir!!... me sir!!! (waves hand furiously and turns
blue with excitement)

It's like being asked to take the helm of the Titanic...AFTER the iceberg
collision.

Micro Focus has an alternate representative on J4 (Mr. Huib Klink of the
Netherlands) who, I believe, will automatically succeed Don as the primary
representative.

I suspect determination of their intent will ultimately be through
observation as to whether Mr. Klink or his designated alternate
representative attends J4 meetings with sufficient frequency so as to retain
the corporate voting membership by INCITS/J4 rules. Assuming someone
officially representing Micro Focus does so, so far as I know, their INCITS
membership is good through the end of this calendar year.
