I once worked at a site where a new-whizzkid programmer was brought in
to reverse document the assembler based payroll system (prior to making
the case to scrap it and implement a package written in
Adabas/Natural). He kept on asking my (assembler-savvy) boss what the
various programs did. She lost her with him and he admitted to not
being knowledgable in assemble, as he was more of a cobol programmer.

A year later he came to me and started asking the same sort of
questions about cobol code. It transpired that he had little knowledge
of either language. As he was paid around 33 percent more than me
(cobol and assembler-savvy), I resigned.

He was subsequently sent on a CICS course and left to go to a bank in
Edinburgh as their 'CICS expert'!
