Videogame remakes are popular for hobbyist programmers, because they can
just concentrate on the programming. The graphics, music, story, etc. can
all be lifted from the original game.

A Google search for "space invader remake" (without the quotes) yields
about 50'000 hits, the first 10 at least are all to sites that talk about a
space invader remake, possibly offering one for download.

Going to sourceforge.net and searching for "remake", of the first 25
results, 24 are remakes of games. One of them is some sort of command like
interpreter which happens to have the word "remake" show up in its
description.
