While I don't have supporting evidence - I believe while most crimes
are not solved - most criminals get caught. This is because people
repeat what appears to work. When crime pays, criminals continue to
commit crimes.
But s**t happens. We've all had screw-ups in our work, whether we
are at fault, others are at fault, or just bad luck. If your job is
crime, the results of screw-ups can be getting caught - or worse.
We end up with a population of people who are sometimes willing to
discuss their careers of crime, including that part of their careers
that occurred before the screw-up.
