I need to debug programs that write formatted "page mode" screens to
HP2392a terminals and terminal emulators using acucobol-gt (ver 6.2).
It's necessary to switch the mode between page and line every time you
switch from the debugger to the application screen. Is there a way to
have the debugger running in a separate process within a vt220 xterm
while the application screens go to the hp2392a terminal (actually a
Reflection emulation).

Microfocus has a number of different ways to attach the animator to a
process or module. Does acucobol-gt have anything similar?
