| Our current trading systems still using the old cobol CA-ralia workbenc
II version 3.59 and i am trying to to migrat to newer version of cobol
probably with .net
I am not exactly a programmer but knowing a bit of C and little
networking knowledge. As it is my first job in IT i have lot to learn
but i would really appreciated if someone can guid me a bit on what I
needs for bring the old DOS trading systems onto web interface?
1) the current development server is winxp pro. Do we need sth more
powerful like win2k or 2003 server?
2) I definitely need a database. I know a bit about rmdba but the
current one in the old system is btrieve which is some kind of index
sequential accesss method type of database i think. There is a newer
version of btrieve called pervasive. Consider the speed and license fee
, do we need to go to sth like MS SQL server?
The price for MS sbs seems rather attractive tho with uses number cap
at 75. But i wonder if we open part of our system to public in a b2c
way, do we get explode by number of users buying thing online from us?
Finally, many cobol go .net . If i want our system use browser to be
client , is .net getting our job done much easier?
Thanks in advance
