You seem to be less attuned to the US than most Canadians. The Southern
Baptists were segregationist until relatively recently. The various
Black Baptist conventions (National, etc.) with the participation of
northern denominations (American Baptist formerly Northern Baptist being
the predominantly white Baptist convention in the mix) were the leaders.
I suspect the Southern Methodists also were segregationists.

Today the Southern Baptists are integrated and have outreach efforts in
Northern US urban areas. I doubt they would be upset by a Black Pope
and would have mixed views on his theology.
