| Daniel,
Thanks for the translation BTW - but didn't need it this time. It's been
used so often since my adult days that even us 'foreigners' almost know
it off by heart. Yep, we also know about Miranda too.
Still, come to losing VPs like Miller - now why would I remember some
obscure loser. I can visualize Barry Goldwater - but would have to stop
and give it some thought as to his exact time era.
Not verbatim, but let me have a go at the Fifth :-
Joseph (The Mower), Grappinelli :-
"Yers honor. Oi plead da Fifth on da grounds I moight incriminate
moiself. Besoides which I could finish up swimmn' with da fishes".

Chalk it up to American Cultural Imperialism... I remember reading an
article about social difficulties in French banlieus - impoverished
suburbs as opposed to impoverished inner cities - which reported a scene
of a lad being arrested. Some of the onlookers yelled out 'His rights!
You have to read him his rights!'... and one of the police said to the
author 'These kids, they learn from American films... this is France, we
do not have to read such 'rights'.'

I never know. DD has got me recognizing more of my colloquialisms...

heh... I don't know if you all get Chappelle's Show up there - it's on
Comedy Central here. Anyway, he had this one skit where his character
was supposed to go up before Congress and testify on something. Not an
accusatory testimony, just information gathering. He started pleading
the 5th for every question.
"I plead the 5th"
"I plead the fizz-if"
"one two three four FIFTH!" (screeched in a high voice)
I almost fell off the couch... :)
