Uh, no. First, the United States has never had an official "colony," in
contradistinction to, for example, 19th-century Germany. If we were into
colonization, Germany (again, just as an example), or at least the western
part, would be one.

Second, we take national leaders as we find them. We remove them from power,
kill their children, exile their families, evict them from their homes,
confiscate their property and money, and throw their skanky asses in a dank
cell where they fill their meaningless days contemplating imminent
execution, followed by cremation and scattered ashes. We take no chances.

The U.S. is democracy in its purest form: By free and popular vote we
elected a leader to undertake the above actions toward any mope that even
squints in our direction.

Just watch: France, Lebanon, and the EC are going to get a pissing-contest
with Syria over Syria's occupation of Lebanon. Iran will come to Syria's
aid, and two more terroristic, tyrannical regimes will go pop. North Korea
will soon reach the point where even its army is starving and they'll do
something silly. Poof! Re-unification. (Like Germany, only worse.)

We live in interesting times.
