| Seeing Judson writing about MILLIONS being put to death, and Oliver
mistakenly choosing the Pope as the supreme figurehead for Christianity
etc.... I wonder Judson didn't blow his top at Oliver's comment -
certainly a loud-mouthed gentleman called the Rev. Ian Paisely would
have done :-)
Granted the Catholic Church doesn't have a stellar reputation if you go
back through the books, but MILLIONS ? That's pushing it old son. Even
with the then latest twentieth-century technology and working 24/7, the
SS had quite a logistical problem shuffling some six million Jews
through the gas chambers.
The author quoted below keeps on using 'Catholic' when in fact initially
there were just 'Christians' - Eastern (Orthodox) and Western (Vatican)
until about the 1500s; the latter used/use the phrase in the Credo 'Et
unam sanctam catholicam et apostolicam Ecclesiam' - 'And one holy,
catholic and apostolic Church' - lowercase 'catholic' meaning universal.
Give or take a few, there were smaller groups like the Coptics in Egypt
and groups in Ethiopia etc.
