The actual letters of the 'slang term' are kharzi (somethimes rendered
with an 's'). Originally an Indian word. I would assume that 'the
reason behind' is that they cannot spell.

Of *course* they cannot spell... most tribes - the Arapahoe, the Paiute,
the Naragansett come to mind - did not, as I recall, have an alphabetic
language.
