I did some tests many years ago with MF CIS Cobol comparing DISPLAY,
COMP and COMP-3. When only computational verbs were used the fastest
was COMP, when edited numeric MOVEs and I/O (DISPLAY) was used DISPLAY
was the fastest, but when there was a realistic mixture of computation
and I/O with numeric edited COMP-3 was the fastest.
And this was on Intel CPU.
