Author getting Fujitsu Cobol 3 to work on XP

Hello,

I have downloaded the free student edition of Fujitsu Cobol V3 from the
www.adtools.com site.

When I try and install is on XP I get an error message with
"C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt" and that the "file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications."

Any ideas on how to get this working with XP?

Thanks,

td.

I know this is not an XP KB article, but I think it applies to this
problem.

Fujitsu versions less than Version 5 will not run on XP. The older
versions sold in the books are for learning only, not production level
environments, and must run on at most Win98. Sorry...

My experience is that the compiler works ok ,once you can install it.
1.Right click the install program.
2. Select properties.
3.Select the compatibility tab.
4.Tab down to select "Run as Windows 98" and select it.

Then I found I could run the install program.

I have not written enough programs to adequately test the compiler, but I've
not found any problems yet.

The alternative is to try Kobol which only costs $60.The trouble is that
Kobol does not seem to be a commercial success, particularly the Windows
version, and bugs don't get fixed. In windows the cygwin runtime for the
screen is presently broken and doesn't look like getting fixed.

I am currently running Fujitsu Cobol V4.2 Enterprise under Windows XP,
Service Pack 1.

When running the instal program I changed the compatabliity mode
to "Windows NT4 (Service Pack 5)".

I have been able to compile/run all of the sample programs provided on the
CD
including the Powercobol samples.

My own programs, which do not make Win API calls, all work fine.

Hope this can help you with your V3 instal problems.
