I think Robert intended that as sarcasm. The entire post was, I
believe, a suggestion that Clark's reference to contemporary
sanitation mania does not justify (though it may explain) the
practice of attempting to sanitize doorknobs with UV light.
I'm with Robert on this one, frankly. Bacteria are everywhere, and
sanitizing doorknobs will not make a bit of difference (aside from
perhaps improving the evolutionary chances of bacteria resistant to
the sanitation method being employed). People would do just as well
to wipe down their homes with dollar bills as with those "sanitizing"
wipes and the like.
It's nice to keep things clean. It's good to avoid gross contamin-
ation, whether that's washing hands or keeping raw meat away from
prepared food or what have you. But trying to disinfect surfaces in
the home is a fool's errand.
