Author Cobol compilers with free deployment of App

Which commercial COBOL compilers / products allow
free & unlimited deployment of the applications developed
(Win platforms) assuming that a database engine will be used
for storage, i.e. no ISAM or COBOL files (if that makes a difference)

Fujitsu

None of the others in any manner whatsover ?
Is Fujitsu suitable for commercial grade mass deployable apps in win
platforms and does it compare well with others
- Productivity of developers
- Features
- GUI based apps
- OO implementation
(Long back in the DOS days we used another well known product)

RM - runtime charge
MF - runtime charge
ACUCOBOl - runtime charge (and development license is HIGH, probably
higher and MF. I was quoted 13000 UKP with a ISV contract for 6
developers (Windows). Ouch||)

Depends.
If using POWER-COBOL it's very small compared to others.
If not it is as with any other.

Average

It uses it's own GUI development environment = POWER COBOL.
It is a pain to develop with this.

It is better to leave it alone and use the "normal" COBOL with a
screen tool such as SP2 from www.flexus.com

> - OO implementation

I would say the same as others that have it. Don't think they are
following the 2002 standard yet, but should be near enough.

Computer Associates has NO runtime licenses for compiled programs.
This includes programs that use Indexed files (VSAM).
The product name is AllFusion CA-Realia II Workbench. Full info is
available at
http://www3.ca.com/Solutions/Product.asp?ID=1475

I am the development manager for this product at CA.

Gee, I wouldn't know without doing the research work.

Why don't you tell us which compilers you have checked out and we'll see if
you missed any of the "biggies."

OK all the biggies I have been looking at has been mentioned in another
response
Personally I have worked on MF long back (when it was repackaged by MS)
and liked it

Also There was a Visualage COBOL (IBM) which has not been mentioned

I wonder, why PowerCobol is a pain to develop. I hear a lot of that sort
of remarks. Untill now I only develop applications in PoswerCobol. Large
packages, pensionfunds, but also small packages sold to a broader
public. Accounting, CRM and time management.
I hear a lot of complaints about all kind of problems programming in
PowerCobol. In 1998 I started with PowerCobol (from Microfocus DOS
environment), and I can do anything with it.

As I always read your posts, and see that you are an expert on it, could
you tell me what the main problems are for programmers to use
PowerCobol? I research this, because I'm constantly sing collegues to
create a network for continuity. Untill now I have had no success.

Visualage for COBOL has no runtime fees but some "strange" rules about
how things must be named to (apparently) obscure the fact that the
runtime is IBM.

Relia Advantage COBOL (Workbench 3.2) does not have a fee to redistribute
applications that you develop.
