Author Platinum download and <CR> <VT> causes problems while FTP

I would like to change a few hex decimal values while doing a platinum
download from a DB2 table. Sometimes <cr> or <vt> get in to data and
that causes FTP to terminate while transferring data from mainframe to
mid-range Unix boxes. Does anyone know of a neat way to replace these
extraneous characters with space within the download or any other
ulilities. I know of REPLACE within SQL and it takes too much coding.

Has anyoone face this problem and find a better way to address this
issue.

Thanks
