Learning and Using dBASE III PLUS

| I am a neophyte to dBASE and clipper and have acquired "Learning and
Using dBASE III Plus". Unfortunately, the material originally came
with several disks which included:
-System Disk #1 and #2
-Sample programs and utilities disk
-On disk tutorial
-dBASE Administrator disk #1 and #2
Should anyone have these, I would greatly appreciate getting a hold of
copies.
Please advise

DBase III is very old and primitive compared
to modern versions of DBase, Clipper, FoxPro,
Harbour, etc., and the only reason I can think
of for you to be learning it would be as a
simple "Beginners 101" course to be followed
up by further study in the more developed
languages. That's not a bad way to get started,
really. That said, if you're interested, I have
a ZIP file with most of DBase III (I don't know
if it's "PLUS"). It has what you need to run
it, but no tutorials, Administrator, or sample
program. I think it's easy to install: Just
create a sub-directory and unzip the files there,
and it's ready to run, as I recall. Being a
(relatively) primitive plain-old plain-DOS app,
there's no elaborate installation procedure you
need that stuffs bits pieces in a hundred different
places before it will run. Imagine that! Let
me know if you want it.

BTW, I'm not familiar with this particular book,
but I hope you make sure it's a good one. I first
learned dBase in a college class, circa 1991,
with a textbook that was SO ABYSMALLY BADDDDDDD
that I felt certain that any class using it
should have been disaccredited. It seemed to
have been written for fourth-grade kids by a
fourth-grade kid. The whole class complained that
they couldn't make head or tail of it. So I found
another book to study on my own, and it was only
faintly better. Finally, the instructor loaned me
his big technical DBase reference manual, written
for REAL PROGRAMMERS to use. So we know there
are some good books out there. Sorry, everybody,
I couldn't resist ranting a bit about bad textbooks.

| Ryan,
I had the book and just about every xBase book of the era. But most
have long ago been recycled by giving them to my local used book
reseller. I suggest that you look there. Wish I could help you.
