Does anyone here have experience with MS Windows Storage Server O/S?
Specifically, I would like to knowif it would be a good O/S platform
for running Clipper apps using the Comix RDD. I have several legacy
apps in client businesses and am considering running them on this O/S
since the servers will be doing little, if anything else besides
storage, record and file locking duties, etc on large DBFCDX
databases.

I have had some unresolved issues recently wherein a Windows Server
2003 Small Business Edition does not correctly handle record locking
(!!) using Comix DBFCDX. Ain't that a trip? It's a very small
office, and there is a very low likelihood of simultaneous access and
editing of a single record. But the O/S happily allows it to happen,
without fail (!!) when trials are performed. The server at this
client's shop also has a product called Public Share Folder, which
allows shared access to email folders. The authors of this app say it
can't be causing the record locking problem. Their explanation of the
reasons why are far beyond my ability to comprehend. My Clipper apps,
and their record locking schemes work just fine everywhere but there.
Russian Roulette cpmes to mind, except someone hears the bang. With
this situation, it will be silent... one user's updates overwrite the
other user's updates and no one knows. Makes me warm and cozy.

Curious about Storage Server, though.

Thank you, Andreas. We have checked these things awhile back. I did
re-read the links you supplied. The person who actually check the
registry was the MSCE who supports my client's PC's and network. I
will look for myself the next time I am there. And I will look at the
clients as well as the server.

What about Windows Storage Server? Any knowledge of that product?
