To Mel, Martin, John and anyone else I snubbed by not replying to your e-mail
messages.
I apologize for not getting back to you.
Dave Pearson was correct in presuming that I am the person who he was
corresponding with. Please be assured that I am not trolling the newsgroup - this is the
first time I have accessed it since sending the original message. I have to say that it
was both interesting and embarassing to read the chain of responses that resulted from
my rudeness. I am not usually one to "drop the ball", so it was humbling (and eerie) to
be the subject of critical remarks
The urgency expressed in my original post was being driven by a business situation that
suddenly changed. The person who asked me to locate the Clipper help is now
looking at some canned software that might replace his custom application. My failure
to respond to some of the e-mail replies was partly due to the fact that I am doing this
as a favor for a friend during a very busy time in my life.
None of that excuses me for not replying to you gentlemen. Once again, please
accept my apologies.
I will follow-up with you as soon as I know with any certainty that the help will be
needed.
As an aside, you might be interested to hear that my posting for "Clipper Help in
Edmonton" trigger at least a dozen replies from around the world, including a polite,
enthusiastic sales pitch from a group in India and another in Australia (I guess the
Chinese haven't used Clipper very much, or don't know about this newsgroup). These
replies were interesting, but the person I am helping would balk at contracting someone
from an "unfamiliar" country.
Regards,
CatScratch
p.s. My wife just pointed out that my pseudonym probably makes people think I am a
Ted Nugent fan. It's just a pseudonym I picked out to keep my namesake mailbox from
being excessively spammed.
