Author Whats the best Windows for Clipper 5.3?

I'm currently using XP for a clipper app, and it works, but it can
eventually crash XP. I used to use OS/2, which was great for clipper, but
now I must install it on a Windows pc for another user. Is win2000 better?
98?

I run Clip5.3b/exospace app under Win2K-SP4 and Win98SE without any problems.

If your application is linked with Blinker 7.0, the XP or Win2000 is
certainly better, otherwise stay with Win98.

Which Windows version is best for Clipper is a tough question. I
suggest they are all "good enough" if tuned properly. Pick a version,
do a Google search for it within this newsgroup, read the VFAQ, and go
for it.

Hi,

Blinker 7 : XP or Y2K
Others : Win98

But : if you are running against a novell server : stay with win98 (the
novell client is faster)

HTH
Tom

if you are using your app with a novell serve

My applications are command mode (not interactive/transaction) and are
i/o intensive (indexing, sorts, copies, ...). W98se works best for
me. W2000 was significantly slower (maybe I didn't tune right).

Try FlagShip for MS-Windows (http://www.fship.com/vfs.html), it creates true
32bit code, is backward compatible to Clipper (Summer'87 upto 5.3) and
work in GUI or Textual mode and is available also for other platforms
like Linux, SUN Solaris, IBM AIX and so on. Free, unlimited eval for
30 days is on http://www.fship.com/eval.html

Where can i found a ms-vc6++ compiler?

Can i use Microsoft Visual C ++ Toolkit 2003 free?

Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003

The Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003 includes the core tools developers
need to compile and link C++-based applications for Windows and the .NET
Common Language Runtime:

the FlagShip compiler.

The Microsoft .NET C compiler is unfortunately fully incompatible
to the required MS-VC6++

But we are preparing a port for the free Borland bcc32 (aka bcc55) c++
compiler as well.
