Clarion V2.10 for Dos APP convertion to Windows

| Is there a simple known utility or method to convert Clarion for DOS
applicaitons to Windows version 2 or version 4 or any other version for
that matter, even if the functionality is not all that wonderful at
first? I have a number of Clarion for Dos Applications still in use
after many years, but I simply dont have the time to redevelop all from
scratch. Any help or advice will be appreciated.

The short answer is NO! ;-)
Best solution I have seen is some of the advice given in this message thread
some years back now - pay particular attention to advice from Earl Coker.

Then I would strongly suggest looking at the wealth of Clarion Third Party
Window Tools available today to make your job of embellishing new Window
features into your programs a much easier task.
Also, consider asking you inquiry over at this news server. If you are using
a regular newsgroup reader such as those mentioned on this site:

just enter the server name into the configuration file and you don't need a
password to log onto the server.
SoftVelocity news server

I've been using Clarion since the DOS days, and keeping track of the tools
through my company Profile Exchange releases and the amount and versatility
of the Window tools versus the DOS days - it is an amazing difference. It
has gotten dramatically better and much more diverse now.

| I don't know of such utility, but even if you found a way to convert Clarion
for DOS apps to Windows, the resulting program would not be great. Today's
users are demanding way more from software applications than they did in the
DOS days.
As a starting point I would import the files into a Clarion for Windows
dictionary, define the relatioships/validation and generate a default
application. This will give you browses and forms for all your files, which
is pretty much what the DOS programs were. This should not take long.
I don't recommend starting an APP in C2 or C4 these days. You are going to
end up with an old new application,. If you are going to do this, you
really should use Clarion 6.3.

| Hi,
There is no simple way or any kind of utility to convert a DOS app to a
Windows app. The differences between the two systems are waaaay to great
for that to be possible. There are some utilities to help a little bit if
you want to re-develop them in CW but it still amounts to a complete
rewrite. You should also definitely use Clarion 6.3 to do the development
as well.
However, depending on what your apps are used for, I might be able to
provide a way for you to just migrate directly to a fully developed Windows
business management system. Of course, as previously mentioned, it depends
on what your "number of apps" are used for. However, if one of my current
systems are "almost" what you need, I might also be able to very easily
"adapt" one of my systems to fit your needs. You can go here
http://www.kwiksystems.net/ and see what they are if you like... There are
LOTS of choices so if you get looking at all of them, you can just
give me a quick phone call at the phone number on my web site if you like.
I can also provide fully working demos for them.
