Author EIP Stop Column Access At Runtime If Changing A Record

I am new to EIP.

1. I want to be able to set up some columns on a browse for access via
EIP. Then to stop some columns from access if the user is changing
records. Like when globalrequest is changerecord.

So when you insert a customer for example you can enter their customer
code. But when you are changing records you can not change the customer
code.

How can I do this?

2. When I insert new records the data from a earlier record in the
browse displays. How can I clear the record before it is primed when in
insert mode?

Thanks for the help.
