Author when I TAB to next field, what I just entered dissapeared..

Hi there,

This may be a strange question, but I have an application developed in
Clarion called IFile, this is an Optometry office manager app.
When I enter in a patient's last name in the last name field, then TAB
to the first name field, it erases the name in the last name field.

The manufacturer said it was possibly a drivers problem, but all other
software I have on this machine works fine. The app runs in safe mode,
but that is useless to me. He says there is nothing wrong with his app.

I am running Windows 2000Pro SP.4, the latest fixes, the latest drivers
for my video card, scanners and printers... I talked nicely to the CPU
and showered it with praise and affection... still nothing.

Anyone have suggestions? The developer said.."let me know if you fix
it.." :(

Thanx in advance,
JC

Hi JC,

Does the disappearing field thing happen in more that one place in the
application???
When you save that "screen" and go back to view that record does the data
for that field still
appear there??? If so, then "maybe" there is possibly a "Display()" problem
of some
kind in the application. But I doubt it.

However, like the developer said, in all likelyhood there probably isn't
anything "wrong"
with his app. The "problem" is in all likelyhood "somewhere" in your OS
setup or you
just might have a "corrupt install" of the app.

I have a new customer that is running my app on a 5 machine (peer-to-peer I
think) network
and on one of the machines the app just "disappears" while using it and
sometimes the app,
on just one machine, just "disappears" all by itself when they have the app
running but not using
it at the time it "disappears". It runs just fine on all of the other 4
PC's on their network
system. They OS they are running the app on is Windows 2000 SP4 too.

They are a "computer sales and service" store and have told me that Win2000
is the "only" stable Windows OS but I have other customers plus myself
running my
apps on Win98 and WinXP without any problems.

Go figure...

JC,

If the system has been running OK up to this point, and (1) you have
not upgraded the Optometry software or (2) not upgraded WIN2K, then
it's possible the key on Last Name (assuming there is one) is
corrupted and running TPSFIX, or whatever file recovery utility the
vendor has provided, should clear the problem.

If this is a new system and no records have been added, see if the
Last Name field will retain numbers. If so, the Last Name field mask
was probably set to numeric. The vendor needs to fix this and
recompile the program.

Either way, if it were me, and I got a response like that from a
vendor, I would be looking for another vendor, posthaste!

This is the first time running the software on this machine. However it
does run fine on an XP machine and a 98 machine with the same install CD.

The name fields work fine in "safe mode" so I cant see that as a problem
either.

Sorry if I gave that impression. They guy is really good at support!
This is a mystery problem and I can't blame him, how can you track this
down with the miriad of different set-ups out there. He sells thousands
of copies of the software and he's only just this one guy.. It is the
best manager software out there that we've seen so far.
Just my 2 cents.

Thank you all so far for all your help. I appreciate it!
