Anyone know who might still be using APL*PLUS on MVS
|
|
|
| As the title says any information on anyone still using APL*PLUS on
MVS would be very useful to me. We currently use APL*PLUS on VM, but
are looking to port off this platform, as we also have an MVS system,
it was one of the options we were looking at.

Can't help you there, but there are several of us around who are
familiar
with SHARP APL under MVS. The dialects are similar enough that a good
programmer familiar with one could do work on the other.
I don't know what the APL*PLUS MVS licenses are like, but the SHARP
APL
MVS license fees are probably very high. You might want to
consider moving the apps to Dyalog APL under UNIX/Linux on
a workstation/server, or to SAX on same, which would probably
save you some serious software rental.

quite active,
and respond quickly to problems.

| Chris,
IBM's APL2 runs on TSO/MVS. There are differences in the dialects,
particularly in the area of system interfaces, but it is certainly possible
to port from APL*PLUS to APL2. If you would like more information, please
consult our web site, http://www.ibm.com.software/awdtools/apl, or write us
directly at apl2@vnet.ibm.com.
Thanks.

| The web page link given in David's append has a typo, the correct link is

If you are looking to switch platforms, you might also consider a Unix-
based system such as AIX on the IBM RS/6000, or a Linux server. If
that is a possibility, an additional option is APLX which has quite a
high degree of compatibility with APL*Plus and would give you UK-based
support and consultancy if needed.
