News group problems

| Has anyone else been experiencing problems with the comp.lang.apl news group
for the past few days?
My news reader keeps reporting that there are many new posts, but when I go
look at the group, there are only one or two or even no new posts to
download. And, I find that when I completely delete my subscription to the
group and even the server, when I reconnect, it still tells me there are
many posts, but only downloads the most recent one or two.
When I ask my ISP about the problem, they tell me that their server is just
a pass through to some other server somewhere on the net and they do not
actually keep the posts on their server. So, presumably, the problem is in
the copy(s) of the group that exist out there on the net and not at my ISP.
Can anyone help me figure out what might be going wrong?
Thanks in advance.

If you're using Mozilla Thunderbird as your news reader, I /might/ have
a solution for you. There's an issue with it when the file that tracks
which messages you've read and which you haven't gets fragmented. And
deleting the subscription and even the server doesn't delete that file;
it just gets reused when you re-add the server/subscription. Let me
know if you're using that, and I'll post details. p

| Thanks, but I'm not using Mozilla Thunderbird. I have the problem with both
Outlook Express on Windows XP and KNode (and I think Opera) on SuSE 10.1.
