Author Memory in APLSE?
Doug White

I'm trying to clean up some circuit analysis software to release into
the public domain. It will run under APLSE, but depending on how
ambitious people get with it, memory may be an issue.

With APLSE loaded under Windows XP, I get only around 320K free in a
clear workspace. I have all of the memory options set to "Auto" in the
shortcut I use to launch it, but I don't know if anything is getting
loaded in upper meemory or not. What would be nice, is if I could at
least make sure that the print driver and font management was getting
loaded into upper memory.

It's been a very long time since I messed with TSR's & upper memory, and
I don't even know what options might be available to do this in XP. I
also know that APL*PLUS/PC Ver. 11 has a "virtual workspace" capability
that would allow you to swap out to RAM disk, but I don't remember if
APL*PLUS/PC Ver. 10 (which APLSE is based on) had this feature.

Any suggestions of how to free up some memory would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks!

I have the documentation for v.7, which is the release which introduced
the VWS feature I think. The syntax seems to be the same as listed below;
so I suspect that it may indeed be present in the free version: try it
and see.

The documentation mentions that with VWS "you may find []WA hovering
around zero as a matter of course" so presumably one shouldn't rely on
this function to see what's going on. It also mentions that the VWS
feature "will dramatically affect and []CMD or )CMD commands" and it
provides a way to ensure you have enough room for these. If anyone needs
this info I can transcribe it.
