Author APL influence on "Metro" newspaper

A Santa Clara County, California area newspaper, "Metro - Silicon
Valley's Wly Newspaper" uses square brackets around the page numbers
and continues articles with e.g. {right arrow}34. It's used this APL
go-to format for a long time. Maybe since it was founded in 1985.

Does anyone around here have any clue if this style might have come from
an APL user? Curtis

Don't know about them, but I use such shorthand all the time. For
example, in my to-do list, I might write something like: --> Bank

There was some APL publication that used that notation;
I remember thinking it was cute.
