You can combine J with C and all kinds of utilities
Here are some examples of labs that will explain to you how to use some
of them

Lab: DLL: Using System DLLs (file examples)
Lab: DLL Callback
Lab: DLL: Writing and Using a DLL
Lab: Socket Driver Server
Lab: Socket Driver Server - Client
Lab: Sockets and the Internet
Lab: Mapped Files
Lab: Files
Lab: Grid Control
Lab: Grid Low Level Programming
Lab: LAPACK
Lab: ODBC: Basic ODBC
Lab: OpenGL Utilities
Lab: Object Oriented Programming
....

These are all part of J distribution and you just use ctrl+J to step
through the labs
There are demos too

You get a complete socket server - client demo as well as labs to show
you how to develop those kind of interactions - all for free - really
amazing

www.jsoftware.com

Always something new happening at the web site and the J Forum is very
active and growing

There are talks about splitting up the J Forum into subgroups because
of all the traffic
