Author Detecting block ID's

When writing a record to tape, how can I determine the current blockid?
How would I do when reading?

Thanks

Should you use the mailblocks package and expect a response from me,
you should preauthorize the dissensoftware.com domain.

I very rarely bother responding to challenge/response systems,
especially those from irresponsible companies.

Sir:
I have failed to make any sense from your reply.
Challenge/response systems? Mailblocks package?
What are you talking about?

What does your response have to do with detecting block IDs when
writing to tape in zOS using a 3490 tape device?

NOTE gives you the block number just written to a device.

POINT allows you to position a device to a specified, previously written block
number.

You read his sig line and not his response. He was telling you to use
NOTE (for writing) and POINT (for reading).

The reference to C/R systems and the mailblocks package was not
directed to you, I think, but is a fixed signature included to
remind people who use C/R systems to whitelist him if they send
him electronic mail.

It is no more related to the topic than is my randomly-chosen
signature below:
