| recently i have got a hdd wd400eb and cant create any partition on it, bios
recognizes disk (in cylinder reduction mode as 32gb), example error
messages:
partition magic 8 : Init Failed: Error 100 Partition Table is bad
fdisk (w98): Error reading fixed disk
fdisk /mbr (w98): The master boot code has NOT been updated
some other programs: Int13h error 04h, Sector not found, Read error
tried soem linux/fbsd fdisks and the similar result
tried to reset disk using debug script... nothing positive
any chance to fix it? i tried bootmaster but as unregistered version can
not write anything

The general advice is to check the home page of the motherboard
manufacturer. A new BIOS version might be available. Helped me once!

Yeah, flashing the BIOS may help. if that doesnt then its a faulty disk?
A low level format of trhe drive might fix it, this was easily done in the
old days.
I dont know about now though. Perhaps special machinery is required to
rewrite the sector address markings etc
Try flashing the BIOS with the latest firmware though
With hard disks so cheap these days, its usually a better alternative
to replace them if it turns out to be a faulty disk.

Check your drive jumpers and cabling, no amount of formating will solve this
problem. Sector errors on an ide drive are either a bad drive or bad cable
or jumpered incorrectly. (Assuming you have another drive on this same
board that works fine that is.) Just a note: I had a drive i couldnt format
no matter what i tried it would fail part way through, DOS,Win, Linux all
the same. Turned out to be a bad DIMM, I pulled the DIMM and bingo
everything started working like it should have - go figure.

Check your drive jumpers and cabling, no amount of formating will solve this
problem. Sector errors on an ide drive are either a bad drive or bad cable
or jumpered incorrectly. (Assuming you have another drive on this same
board that works fine that is.) Just a note: I had a drive i couldnt format

I have exactly the same problem like oiram.
Did you rezolve it?
And how?
I have (had :)) a hdd quantum fireball at 30gb lct 20.
My hdd in POST screen is now reported like:QUANNUM GISECAMMCU21 LCT 20!!!!! ???????????
I tried some of the hdd utility from quantum but no succes.
My OS win xp does'nt see him.
With o&o disk recovery (on another computer) is reported to have 697 gb?????!!!!???
I have tried and dos command fdisk/mbr but nothing!
It could be a mbr virus?
And how can repair that? |
