We've been experiencing a problem whereby an expired certificate (our
own) prevents our application from running. This only occurs with JVMs
1.4.2_02 and earlier. Can anyone explain this?

It seems to be related to the trust manager implementation. I notice in
the release notes for 1.4.2 that there have been changes in this area,
perhaps they are related.
