I am in the process of making a java game for my final year project at
university. I am a bit lost as to where to begin. I have found a few
tutorials to help me and have purchased books also. My main issue is
that I am pretty much a novice when it comes to java. I took a module
on it a year ago and that barely scratched the surface, so to make a
game is pretty hard! My choice was to make a simple platform game
which is going to end up being educational. I have various source code
examples from websites and books of other java platform games and I
don't know how to run them as a java application. I have installed the
relevant java material on my laptop such as the JRE, compiler,
netbeans, jcreator etc. All have me in their own way. Please
could someone help me! Many thanks.

Ok.
I am in the process of making a java game
for my final year project at university.
I am a bit lost as to where to begin.
I have found tutorials to help me.
I have purchased books also.
I am pretty much a novice when it comes to java.
I took a module on it a year ago that barely scratched the surface.
I conclude that making a game is hard.
I choose to make a simple platform game which is going to end up being
educational.
I have various source code examples from websites.
I have books of other java platform games.
I don't know how to run them as a java application.
I have installed relevant java material on you laptop.
I have been by each in its own way.
I exclaim please could someone help me.
I pluralize thanks.

Carefully examine each sentence.
Collect together your assets.
Collect together you liabilities.
Do what you need to reduce your
liabilities and increase your assets
to a point that you can formulate a
plan to achieve your goal.

See http://mindprod.com/jgloss/gettingstarted.html to learn Java.

You might find one of the ideas in my student project list gives you
an idea. I am like Mr. Banks in Mary Poppins and like my activities to
be "fraught with purpose", so you won't find much in the way of games.

This is going to be painful. So it is important that you pick a game
you love, one you don't think is pointless. You will need all the
motivation you can muster for a big project.
