Subject: I appeal to your goodness for your help

Dear Sir,

I am writing to you in desperation from the United States, hoping you
can save my family fortune from government seizure, and being willing
to reward you handsomely for minimal effort on our behalf.

As you probably have heard, these are difficult times in the United
States, with our government, in the name of fighting terrorism, having
passed many new laws to spy on our citizens, claiming vast new powers
to limit freedoms and seize assets of those who disagree with the
policies of president, Mr. George Bush.

My father, an honorable man, is one such person. A successful real
estate investor, he has amassed great wealth as our economy boomed.
Outspoken, and a patriot like yourself, he refused to speak out in
support of our exploitive and imperialist government, and has now come
under investigation and persecution for his support of liberty and his
opposition to a government which has no respect for our country’s
constitution and our people’s freedoms and civil liberties. As my
honorable father continues to speak up for freedom, he believes the
government has been investigating him and ss to seize his hard
earned wealth in order to silence his valiant efforts to restore the
freedoms and dignity guaranteed by our American constitution. He has
asked me to search for a responsible person of integrity to help
transfer his wealth, nearly $50 million dollars, out of our country.

Based on many emails I have received from people like yourself in
Nigeria, I am appealing to you for help in moving this money out of
our besieged land. I have been told that you are an astute investor
with a long career of helping others by moving funds and finding
exceptional international investments. Since you are so well regarded
as a person of high morality, I propose setting up a business
partnership with my family which would lead to the transfer of my
father’s financial assets to your country and your personal
safekeeping. I propose a payment of 10% of the $50 million to you as
compensation for helping us in our time of need. You would also be
striking a blow against the effects of oppression and would be helping
more than words could describe.

If you are currently too busy to handle this investment, I look
forward to any suggestion of another party of equal integrity who
might benefit from our crisis.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly,

WOW! A scam with proper English grammar, spelling, capitalization, and
punctuation!

Every once in a while when I get that spam, I reply to it along these veins:

Dear [whomever],

I am sure you will be happy to know that I got your letter. However, I
do doubt the truth of much of it due to inconsistent application of
basic English laws of grammar, especially in the realms of
capitalization and punctuation.

I would like to take this time to inform that you are committing an
illegal act, in violation of section 419 of the Nigerian Code. As such,
I am forwarding a copy of your letter to the relevant authorities.

While I do understand that you are trying to eke out a living, it would
be better if you did not try to do so by swindling hard-earned money
from people who have actually added value to the economy.

Good Day.
