Hi:

I hope I posting to the correct group. I am not an expert in Java or
any programming language. I am just requesting some tech support. I
don't know anymore about computer programming that the average American
person today in his/her early 20s.

I really like the old NES games and prefer to play them online for
free.

http://www.virtualnes.com/

The above website has the best amount of control of direction and speed
and the best quality of graphics on any of the NES sites I've
encounters.

I notice that the vNES games aren't showing up on my screen. I click
the game that I would like to play. I get the message that it is
loading and the percentage to which it has loaded. After 100% it just
disappears. I only have this problem on my WIN98SE computer. My WinXP
PC doesn't have this problem. Whats going on here? I use Mozilla Suite
1.8b on both PCs. I am not much of an IE or Firefox fan. I also prefer
WIN98SE over all other OSes.

This problem started yesterday. I never had this problem on either of
my PCs before. I have the latest version of Java installed on both my
98SE and XP PC. The java website confirms my complete installation of
Java and does not detect any bugs.

Any assistance, cooperation, and understanding are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Radium

The group is relevant to the topic. However
this is a matter between you, your browser, and..

I noted that they offer links for 'Help Deparment Home'
'Forums' and 'Documentation' as well as a link at the
bottom of the homepage to the that of the author, where
their are links like 'Send Message' and 'Instant Message'.

As Andrew mentioned, your best bet is to contact the author of the
failing applet program. But if they decide to ignore you, here's what you
might be able to do:

Look in your webbrowser for an option to display the "Java console".
Note that "Java" and "JavaScript" are two unrelated concepts, and you want
to find the "Java console", and not the "JavaScript console". Once you've
found out how to display it (I don't know how to do it in Mozilla, but I
know such an option is available in both IE and Firefox), go to the site and
try to load the applet again. The console should display some error message.
Posting the error message here will help diagnose what the exact problem is.

Alternatively, if the main goal is to just play old NES games, you can
download a NES emulator and run it locally. The only problem is you'd then
have to find the relevant ROMs, and I not being a lawyer, I can't comment on
the legality of doing so. See

The Java Console is broken in Firefox 2.0.0.1 because the
Java-Console/Firefox glue is in the form of a Firefox extension that was
ill-advisedly labeled "valid for versions of Firefox up to 2.0.0.0." In
Windows, however, it is still available from the Tray -- I don't know
about other systems.
