Author JDBC access BMP EntityBeans vs normal application ?

Ok, in a BeanManagedPersistence BMP Entity Bean the Bean has to implement every SQL access code directly.
The same applies to a "normal" stand-alone application which want to access a SQL database.

If I compare now the these two java sources regarding the JDBC access.
Do I have to prepare the AppServer environment in a special way that the BMP can really access the
SQL database?
