Text widget copy/paste problem

I am running on a unix AIX 64 bit environment using AIX 5.2.0.0
I am using Perl 5.8.0 (built as 64 bit) and Perl/Tk 800.024

Under this system my applications using Text widgets do not allow my to
middle mouse copy highlighted text from the Text widget to xterms or to
any other applications. This all works if I go back to the 32 bit
version of Perl. Is this an AIX specific problem since this works fine
on our Solaris system.
